ERA waiting for completion of bidding process to begin construction of Zeway-Arsi Negele segment of Hawassa expressway

Addis Ababa, September 21, 2017 (FBC) – The construction of Zeway-Arsi Negele section, which is part of the Mojo-Hawassa expressway project, will be launched once the bidding process is completed, said the Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA).

Dereje Hailu, communication director representative of ERA, told FBC yesterday that the bidding process is nearing completion to begin the construction of the 60.2km road with 7.4 billion birr (approximately over $317.6 million at current exchange rate) loan obtained from the World Bank.

He said a team tasked to finalizing the bidding process and the construction of the road as per the scheduled has been set up by the authority.

According to the representative, the construction of the remaining segments of the expressway-the 56.4km Modjo-Meki, the 37km Meki-Zeway and the 52.5km Arsi Negele-Hawassa, is well in progress and as per the plan.

The 37km Meki-Zeway segment is being built with 2 billion birr (approximately over $85.8 million current exchange rate) loan obtained from Korea Eximbank, while the 52.5km Arsi Negele-Hawassa segment was awarded to China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC).
