PM Hailemariam holds talks with US delegation led by Senator James Inhofe

Addis Ababa, October 13, 2017 (FBC) –Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn yesterday received and held talks with a US delegation led by James M. Inhofe, the US Senator from Oklahoma.

During the meeting, which also attracted Deputy Premier Demeke Mekonnen and other high-level government officials, the two sides exchanged views on ways to elevate ties between the governments of Ethiopia and the US.

They also conferred on regional peace and security, according to Dr Workneh Gebeyehu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia who attended the meeting held at the Prime Minister's office.

Dr Workneh said that Ethiopia and the United States have been cooperating on various sectors based on the principles of foreign relations.

The cooperation which they have forged to fight against terrorism in the Horn of Africa could be an example for their collaboration in the security sector, Dr Workneh said.

During the meeting, the Premier told members of the delegation that Ethiopian wants to continue the contribution it has been making in the battle against terrorism and to maintain peace in the Horn, according to him.

He said the visit by the Senators would further strengthen the relations between the two countries, Dr Workneh indicated.

James M. Inhofe for his part said that he is a friend of Ethiopia and has been following the general situation of the country since the past 23 years. 

He has observed a remarkable change in Ethiopia and the country has been registering good economic growth compared to other African countries, adding the US is a good partner of Ethiopia.

Ethiopia and the US are known for cooperating on regional peace and security besides on bilateral economic cooperation.
