IGAD remains committed until South Sudanese crisis resolved, says Dr Workneh

Addis Ababa, October 13, 2017 (FBC) –Foreign Ministers of Member States of the Inter-governmental Authority for Development (IGAD) today met in Juba, the capital of South Sudan, to discuss the crisis in Africa’s youngest country.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson of the IGAD Council of Minister, Dr Workneh Gebeyehu, said IGAD will remain dedicated until the crisis in South Sudan are resolved.

During meetings held in Juba, Kahrtoum, Addis Ababa and Pretoria, all warring factions in the country, including the former first Vice President Riek Machar, have expressed their interests to accelerate the peace process, he said.

The people and government of South Sudan are the key actors in the implementation of the Addis Ababa Peace Agreement, he underscored.

According to Dr Workneh, in today’s meeting, the government of South Sudan has expressed it commitment for the implementation of the peace agreement.
