Political parties agree on percentage of mixed electoral system

Addis Ababa, November 3, 2017 (FBC) –The negotiating national political parties of Ethiopia have agreed on a bid to raise the proportional representation for the mixed electoral system to 20 percent.

The agreement adds 110 new seats to the existing 550 seats, thus raising the total number of seats in the Parliament to 660.

Among the 16 negotiating party, the Ethiopian Vision Party stood by its previous stance suggesting the electoral system to be either proportional representation or majority electoral system.

The mixed electoral system will be valid at the Parliament, councils of regional states as well as in Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa city administrations.
