Ethiopia attracts half a billion US dollars FDI in first quarter

Addis Ababa, November 9, 2017 (FBC) –Ethiopia attracted half a billion US dollars foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first quarter of this Ethiopian fiscal year (2017/18), said the Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC).

The Commission made the remark at the 10th consultative meeting of heads of investment bureaus of regional state, which is underway in Mekelle town, Tigray regional.

 Nigusu Gurmu, the Commission’s policy study and strategy director, said that Ethiopia attracted 49 investors with a combined capital of half a billion US dollars in the first quarter.

He said the industrial parks built in the country contributed a lot in attracting FDI. 

Deputy Commission of the Ethiopian Investment Commission, Teka Gebreyesus, said integrated efforts should be made to attract more FDI.

The consultative meeting will evaluate quarterly performance for the coming three days, including today.
