Ethio-UK human rights joint meeting held in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, November 13, 2017 (FBC) – The 4th Ethio-UK human rights joint meeting on human rights, migration and accountability was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia today.

Ethiopia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hirut Zemene, high level government officials, British Ambassador to Ethiopia, Susanna Moorehead and Director of UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) took part at the event.

In her remark, Hirut said UK is the leading development partner of Ethiopia in various sectors, including in the areas of capacity building.

Ethiopia is on democratization process and working to protect human rights, the State Minister said, stating that 36 of the 106 articles in the Ethiopian constitution are focused on human rights.

The meeting would help Ethiopia to acquire experience in human rights protection, she added.

British Ambassador to Ethiopia, Susanna Moorehead, for her part described UK’s relation with Ethiopia as strong and multifaceted.

She further said that the UK would strengthen its support to Ethiopia.
