Chinese investors express desire to engage in mining investment in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, November 21, 2017 (FBC) –A delegation from Hunan Province, China held talks with heads of the Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Natural Gas on the investment opportunities available in Ethiopia.

During the talks held at the Ministry office today, head of the delegation Mr Ye Dongsong said investors from Hunan want to engage in gold and iron ore mining in Ethiopia.

Mr Dongsong and members of the delegation also said they want to share Chinese experiences and provide technological support for the achievement of Ethiopia’s target to become a middle income country by 2025.  

Motuma Mekessa, Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Natural Gas said that Ethiopia will provide the necessary support to attract more mining and other investors from both Hunan Province and China.

Tewodros Geberegziabher, State Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Natural Gas, for his part said China is the catalyst for Ethiopia’s comprehensive growth.

Tewodros further stressed the need to elevate the partnership between the two countries, which was built on mutual benefits, into a new high.

He further said that prime attention would be given towards strengthening cooperation between Ethiopia and Hunan Province.
