Ethiopian diplomat summoned from Turkey following misconduct

Addis Ababa, December 1, 2017 (FBC) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia has summoned an Ethiopian diplomat who was assigned at the Ethiopian Embassy in Ankara, Turkey following his alleged misconduct occurred over the weekend.

Foreign Minister Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu has ordered the establishment of a committee to make inquiries into the case.

The Ministry has pledged to deal with the case with “no tolerance” and subsequently plans to take appropriate disciplinary measures.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia said the diplomat has returned home to appear before the committee.

According to Turkish media, the Ethiopian diplomat, who was reportedly drunk, threatened police officers that he would “start a war” between Ethiopia and Turkey after getting involved in two traffic accidents on November 26, 2017.

Police officers were dispatched to the scene after the accidents as the official, whose identity remains undisclosed, reportedly refused to take an alcohol test.

After police arrived, the official reportedly vowed to “ignite a diplomatic crisis between Turkey and Ethiopia.”
