Ethiopia says working to repatriate migrants from Libya

Addis Ababa, December 7, 2017 (FBC) –The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia (MoFA) said it is working to repatriate Ethiopian migrants from Libya.

The ministry had identified the areas where the migrants are living in Libya, Meles Alem, Spoksperson of MoFA told journalists today. 

According to him, the Ethiopan Embassy in Cairo, Egypt is trying to identify the number of Ethiopians living in Libya.

He said the next step will be to isuue a travl docoment and return them to their country, he added.

According to the African Union (AU), at least 20,000 migrants are being held in government detention centres in Libya.

An urgent evacuation plan for migrants in Libyan detention camps was drawn at an AU-EU summit in Ivory Coast last week.
