Ethiopia secures over $1.8bln from tourism

Addis Ababa, January 9, 2018 (FBC) -Ethiopia has earned more than 1.8 billion US dollars from tourism in the first half of this Ethiopian fiscal year, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MoCT).

A total of 485,806 foreign tourists have visited the country during the past six months, said Hirut Woldemariam, Minister of Culture and Tourism, while presenting her ministry’s 6-month report to the House of People's Representatives today.

She said the revenue secured in this half year surpassed by 10.8 percent compared to the same period last year.

She attributed the successes to the collaborative efforts of MoCT with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other stakeholders in promoting the tourists attraction sites of the country.

Ethiopia plans to earn 4.5 billion US dollars from tourism this fiscal year.
