Ethiopia, Sudan reaffirm commitment to strengthen bilateral relations

Addis Ababa, January 15, 2018 (FBC) – Ethiopia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu met with President Omar Hassan al-Bashir in Khartoum yesterday.

During the meeting, the two countries reaffirmed commitment to strengthen the bilateral relationship and enhance the social and economic benefits of the peoples of the two countries.

President al-Bashir underscored that the two countries should work more closely to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

The President also noted that the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) would benefit not only Ethiopia but also countries in the region.

Dr. Workneh for his part emphasized on the need to hold regular consultations in a bid to strengthen the economic and political ties between the two countries.

The Ethiopian Foreign Minister also held discussions with his Sudanese counterpart Prof. Ibrahim Gandur on issues of mutual concern and cooperation.

Noting the longstanding, exemplary ties the two countries have enjoyed over the years, Dr. Workneh on the occasion called on the need to prop up this relation putting differences on the table to forge meaningful and mutually favorable cooperation.

Ethiopia and Sudan have, on many occasions, demonstrated their unflinching positions to work with other countries to ensure tranquility and prosperity in the Horn of Africa.

Professor Gandur for his part underscored his country has attached greater importance to the relations with Ethiopia.
