PM Hailemariam arrives in Cairo for JMC meeting

Addis Ababa, January 17, 2018 (FBC) - A high-level Ethiopian delegation led by Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn has arrived in Cairo to attend the six joint ministerial commission meeting which is being held for the first time at the level of heads of state.

Upon arrival at Cairo International Airport, Prime Minister Hailemariam was welcomed by Acting Prime Minister of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Mostafa Madbouly.

The Premier is expected to meet el-Sisi to discuss bilateral issues of mutual concern. He is also expected to deliver a speech at the Egyptian Parliament.

The 6th Ethio-Egypt joint ministerial commission meeting opened today.

An Ethiopian delegation led by Dr Workneh Gebeyehu, Minister of Foreign Affairs, also arrived in Cairo this morning to attend the meeting

The senior officials’ session was held yesterday in the presence of a working group of experts drawn from both countries.

Opening the session, African Affairs Director-General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia (MoFA), Ayele Lire said Ethiopia and Egypt have common interests on diverse areas.

He added, the six joint ministerial commission offers an important platform to review various cooperation agreements and jointly explore potentials for further meaningful cooperation.

Ambassador Mohammed Idris, Assistant Minister for African Affairs at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the relations between the two countries have great potential for further growth and consolidation.

The Ambassador further said the current joint ministerial commission would give new impetus to the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
