Efforts underway to stabilize situation in Woldia town, says chief of the regional state

Addis Ababa, January 22, 2018 (FBC) –The conflict that occurred between youth and security officers in Woldia town, Amhara regional state, last Saturday has resulted in loss of life.

The conflict had occurred due to disagreement between youth and security officers at the end of Timket (Ethiopian Epiphany) festival, according to Gedu Andargachew, chief administrator of Amhara regional state.

Properties were also damaged due to the conflict, the chief administrator said in an exclusive interview with Amhara TV.

Security forces are currently trying to put the situation under control, he said, adding efforts are also underway with elders and residents to ensure peace and security in the town.

He called on residents to join hands with security officers in the efforts being made to give solution for the problem.

The chief administrator expressed his sincere condolences and deep sympathy to the families of the victims.

The chief administrator also held discussion with the youth on good governance and other related issues.
