Ethiopia pardons 746 suspects and prisoners, including Eskindr Nega and Andualem Arage

Addis Ababa, February 8, 2018 (FBC) –As per the decision of the Executive Committee of EPRDF, the Federal Attorney General today pardoned a total of 746 suspects and prisoners, including Eskindr Nega and Andualem Arage.

About 417 of the pardoned inmates are federal prisoners jailed on terrorism, inciting violence, religious extremism and other related convictions, according to a statement the Attorney General sent to FBC today.

The prisoners will join the society after President Mulatu Teshome approves their list to be presented by the Board of Pardon as well as receiving rehabilitation training.

Among the pardoned inmates include Eskindr Nega and Andualem Arage.

Similarly, the Attorney General dropped the charges against 329 suspects. Of these, 278 suspects are from federal, 18 from Amhara and 33 from Tigray regional states.

The Federal Attorney General recently released 528 suspects, including 115 at federal level, in the first round. The remaining 413 were from SNNP regional state.

Oromia and Amhara regional states also pardoned 2,345 and 3,503 suspects respectively.
