ECX traded over 14 bln birr worth commodities in six months

Addis Ababa, February 13, 2018 (FBC) - Ethiopia Commodity Exchange (ECX) said it has traded 317,607 tonnes of commodities worth 14.47 billion birr in the first half of this Ethiopian fiscal year (2017/18).

According to a press conference issued by the Exchange today, the performance exceeded by 29% in terms of volume and by 49% in terms of value compared to the same period the preceding year.

The Exchange also surpassed the 2017/18 first half target by 23% in volume and by 42% in value, it said.

Of the total commodities traded at the Exchange, coffee took the highest share with 42% in volume and 62% in value, it added.

The Exchange traded 133,818 tonnes of coffee worth 9 billion birr and 166,691 tonnes of sesame worth 5.2 billion birr in the reported period.

It also traded white beans, green mung beans and red beans.
