Ethiopian, Turkish companies hold consultative meeting

Addis Ababa, February 20, 2018 (FBC) –Machinery manufacturing and importing companies from Ethiopia and Turkey held a consultative forum in Addis Ababa today. The meeting attracted more than 60 local and 15 Turkish companies.

The forum was aimed to create a platform in which the two countries’ business companies engaging in exporting and importing agricultural machineries are to be networked and deal their businesses in order to further promote trade and investment relations.

Opening the forum, Wube Mengistu, deputy director of Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association, said the event would help the Turkish companies to identify the business and investment potential in Ethiopia.

Moreover, it would help to encourage technology transfer in machinery and balance the trade volum between Ethiopia and Turkey.

Ethiopia imports 3.6 billion US dollars worth metals, electronics, machinery and technologies from Turkey while exporting only 433 million US dollars worth agricultural products, such as coffee and sesame.

On the forum, business to business meeting was arranged between eleven Turkish companies representing machinery sector and sixty Ethiopian private companies from various sectors.
