Inquiry team dispatched to Moyale

Addis Ababa, March 12, 2018 (FBC) –The Command Post dispatched an inquiry team consisted of high ranking military officers from the defense force to investigate into the killings of 9 civilians in Moyale area.

Lieutenant General Hassen Ibrahim, representative of Secretariat of the Command Post, said yesterday that 12 others were also injured in the incident that occurred in Moyale area of the Oromia regional state last Saturday.

Those killed and injured civilians were mistakenly identified as members of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) due to wrong tip-off members of the military force received, he said.

According to him, the battalion was deployed to the area to control attempts of OLF forces to infiltrate into Ethiopia.

Five members of the defense force including the commander have been disarmed and kept in custody for investigation. The findings of the investigation will be announced soon, Lieutenant General Hassen said.

The Command Post expressed its condolences to the families of the victims.
