Finland pledges to support Ethiopia’s development, democratization

Addis Ababa, March 12, 2018 (FBC) –State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Dr Aklilu Hailemichael, held talks with Finland's Minister for Foreign Trade and Development, Anne-Mari Virolainen.

Dr Aklilu on the occasion said Ethiopia and Finland have strong diplomatic relations and they should work to elevate their ties in trade and investment.

He also thanked the Finnish government for its development aid to Ethiopia and told Virolainen that Ethiopia is working to become a middle income country by 2025.

As a result of its broad market potentials, availability of cheap renewable energy and its proximity to the Middle East and European markets, Ethiopia is a preferred country for investment, Dr Aklilu indicated.

According to the State Minister, Finnish investors could be successful if they take advantage of these opportunities by investing in Ethiopia.

Virolainen said her country wants to strengthen its trade and investment relations with Ethiopia. Finland will support Ethiopia’s development and democratization.

She added Finnish investors also wants to invest in Ethiopia in Agriculture, education, technology and other sectors.
