Mekele city to get 8bln birr safe drinking water facility

Addis Ababa, April 12, 2018 (FBC) – The Tigray regional state is to build a safe drinking water project at a cost of 8 billion birr so as to address water shortage in the city of Mekele, the capital of the regional state.

According to Dr Tesfamichael Gebreyohannes, head of the regional state’s water resource bureau, the project will be executed with the stated sum secured from the Chinese government.

According to him, the project will be launched next September. It will take three years for completion.

Once completed, the new water facility will enable to supply 147,000 cubic meters of water to the city per day.
