5th Ethio-Saudi Joint Ministerial Commission meeting opens in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, April 16, 2018 (FBC) - The 5th Ethio- Saudi Joint Ministerial Commission meeting opens at the Sheraton Addis today.

In his opening remark, State Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resource, Kaba Urgessa, said Ethiopia is keen to attract more Saudi investors.

Saudi Arabia imports most of its agricultural products from Latin America, he said, adding Ethiopia can exports its agricultural products to the Kingdom by taking advantage its proximity and geographical location.

Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al-Batshan, Deputy Minister of Animal Resources of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture of Saudi Arabia said Ethiopia is endowed with abundant natural resources.

He added Saudi Arabia is committed to boost the mutual benefits of people of both countries

The trade volume between the two countries was 1.4 billion US dollars in 2014 but declined to 600 million US dollars last year due to failure to implement the agreements concluded between them, it was noted.

In today’s meeting, the two countries are expected to deliberate and sign agreements on various bilateral issues, including extradition, investment, domestic workers, agriculture, and counter terrorism, among others.

Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia have a long standing historical relation and they are currently executing 237 projects in joint venture, out of which 113 have gone operational.
