Ethiopia’s Rio team arrives back home

Addis Ababa, August 24, 2016 (FBC) - An Ethiopia delegation who travelled to Brazil to participate at the Rio Olympics arrived back home yesterday.

Senior government officials, including Redwan Hussein, Minister of Youth and Sports, received the delegation at Bole International Airport.

Ethiopia participated in cycling, swimming and athletics events at the 31st Rio Olympics.

With one gold, two silver and five bronze medals, it finished 44th in the medal table and 3rd from Africa.

Olympic and world record holder in both men's 5,000m and 10,000m events, Kenenisa Bekele, on Monday described the result as shocking.

After expressing his disappointment with the result, Kenenisa called for a radical change at the Ethiopia Athletics Federation to save Ethiopia’s athletics sector.
