Ethiopia to release over 11, 000 additional suspects tomorrow

Addis Ababa, February 1, 2017 (FBC) –More than 11, 000 suspects detained under the state of emergency will be released tomorrow, the Command Post established to oversee the implementation of the state of emergency said.

The detainees were given a 20-day “renewal training,” according to Siraj Fegessa, Secretariat of the Command Post and Minister of Defense.

It is to be recalled that 9,800 detainees were released in the first round a month ago after receiving similar training.

And tomorrow, 11, 352 suspects will be released in the second round, he said.

After taking lessons from the first-round training, better training was give for those who will be released in the second round tomorrow, he said.

They were given training for 20 days on Ethiopia’s constitution, constitutional order, national development agendas and nation’s current situations in Senkele, Yirgalem, Tolay and Birshelko training centers, Siraj noted.

According to Siraj, the training will allow them to become active participants in socio-economic sectors while joining the community.

Those who were civil servants will return to their jobs, he said, calling pertinent bodies to cooperate and welcome them.

The Command Post will make public its three-month performance and all processes soon, Siraj said.
