SNNP providing emergency food aid for drought affected people

Addis Ababa, February 17, 2017 (FBC) –The SNNP regional state is providing emergency food aid for 458, 150 people affected by drought.

Low land areas of Omo, Gamo Gofa and Segen Area People zones in the regional states were hit by drought this year.

According to Solomon Hailu, head of the state’s communication affairs office, the regional state also reached 124,000 students with school meals.

Preparations have been finalized to benefit 443,000 students with the school feeding programs in the second academic term, he added.   

Moreover, 467, 231 animals were moved to other areas which have water and pasture land. Some 654,000 animal were also vaccinated, he added.   

In a related development, the regional state is rehabilitating those who were displaced due to security problems in Konso woreda at a cost of 8 million birr.

The state also provided support for those who were displaced from Gedio zone with 7.7 million birr contributed by the community.

The state is returning displaced people to normal life by allocating 28 million birr in the first round, Solomon said.
