Ethiopia, Russia sign MoU to strengthen bilateral cooperation

Addis Ababa, March 15, 2017 (FBC) -Ethiopia and the Russian Federation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the view to enhancing bilateral cooperation in areas of Culture/Arts and the Tourism sector today.

The MoU was signed by Alemayehu Tegenu, Co-chair of the Ethiopian Side of the commission and Minister of Cabinet Affairs of the Office of the Prime Minister and Evgeniy Kiselev, Co-chair of the Russian side of the commission, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation and Head of the Federal Agency for Subsoil Use (ROSNEDRA).

The signing of the MoU has come at the conclusion of the Sixth Session of the Ethio-Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Scientific, Technical and Trade Cooperation which was held this week in Addis Ababa.

The Commission has also adopted the Final Protocol/Agreed Minutes of technical Committee discussions.

Alemayehu underscored that the technical cooperation will help the two sides to reach mutual understandings on a range of issues, adding that the event offered opportunities to advance the bilateral cooperation.

He further emphasized the importance of working closely towards the implementation of the agreements.

Evgeniy Kiselev said his country is pleased to witness that the Sixth Ethio-Russia Intergovernmental Commission Meeting was quite a success.

He also mentioned the fruitful meeting he held with the Ethiopian Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoMPNG).

While noting that the MoU would further widen the already cordial relations between the two countries, he added the most difficult part of the job remains to be putting what is written on paper into action.
