Gov’t, partners to begin mass chlorination campaign in Ethiopian Somali state

Addis Ababa, April 18, 2017 (FBC) - The government and partners are set to launch water chlorination campaign in Ethiopian Somali regional state to contain water-related disease, including the ongoing Acute Watery Diarrhea (AWD) outbreak.

The state bureau has deployed nine teams to six zones to support the campaign, according to Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

UNICEF has also deployed a water specialist to the region for this purpose.

The campaign will include training for borehole attendants at water trucking locations, HTH logistics management, and shock treatment of open sources.

The Ministry of Health is taking the lead in the response to the AWD outbreak in the regional state by deploying over 1,200 health professionals, including 500 nurses and 68 doctors.
