Dr. Workneh, UN Special Envoy discuss regional peace

Addis Ababa, May 4, 2017 (FBC) - Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, discussed with UN Secretary General Special Envoy for Sudan and South Sudan Nicholas Haysom today.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed extensively over issues of peace and stability of South Sudan as well as regional peace and security.

On the discussion, Dr. Workneh said Ethiopia has been working in cooperation with the United Nations along with the international community in resolving the crisis of South Sudan and in bringing peace and stability in the region.

He also reiterated Ethiopia's firm stance on the importance of implementing the peace agreement and an all-inclusive peace process in South Sudan.

Haysom for his part appreciated Ethiopia's continued effort to bring peace and stability in the Horn of Africa, particularly in South Sudan.

He also underlined the need to strengthen the coordinated effort of UN, IGAD and AU to solve the situation in South Sudan.

According to MoFA, the two sides agreed to continue working together to ensure peace and stability in the Horn region, particularly in South Sudan.
