Premier meets ZTE President

Addis Ababa, May 15, 2017 (FBC) – Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn has conferred with ZTE President Zhao Xianming on the sidelines of One Belt, One Road (OBOR) Forum in Beijing, China.

During the discussion, the two sides reaffirmed their pioneering strategic partnership for Information Communication Technology (ICT).

ZTE is one of the companies engaged in the development of Ethiopian telecommunication industry.

Ethiopia awarded multibillion-dollar contracts to Chinese telecommunications multinationals ZTE and Huawei in the last decade.

Hailemariam who was in Beijing to attend the two-day OBOR also held discussion with various Chinese companies engaged in Ethiopia in textile, leather and agro-processing sectors last Saturday.

The Premier on the occasion noted that “I am here in front of you today to show my commitment to all-round support to Chinese investors coming to my country.”

Ethiopia is a favorable destination for Chinese investors because of its political and macro-economic stability, peace and security as well as abundant natural resources and potential, he said.

The East African nation with one of the fastest growing economies in the world has been targeting Chinese companies in its efforts to increase foreign direct investment.
