State Minister Hirut calls for more engagement to ensure safe repatriation of Ethiopians from Saudi Arabia

Addis Ababa, May 17, 2017 (FBC) – State Minister of Foreign Affairs Hirut Zemene yesterday held discussion with Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Mr. Abdullah bin Faleh Al-Arjani.

Hirut on the occasion underscored the need for a more strategic engagement with the government of Saudi Arabia to ensure the safe repatriation of undocumented Ethiopian citizens to their homeland.

Mentioning the unreserved efforts being made by the government of Ethiopia to safeguard the rights of citizens abroad and facilitate the repatriation of nationals with dignity, Hirut added the pace and quality of coordination with the Saudi Arabian government would give further impetus to the ongoing efforts.

Commending the concerns raised by the State Minister, Ambassador Abdullah bin Faleh Al-Arjani for his part pledged to work closely with the government of Ethiopia in a considered and coordinated way.

The Saudi government launched "a nation without violations" campaign on March 29 to repatriate foreign nationals without legal document, and granted a 90-day amnesty period to help them leave the country without penalties.
