Victory of Ginbot 20 described as foundation for rule of law, right to dev't in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, May 29, 2017 (FBC) –Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn said that the victory of Ginbot 20 (May 28) is the foundation for the prevailing rule of law and the right to development.

The Premier made the remark at an event organized yesterday at the Millennium Hall to celebrate the 26th anniversary of Ginbot 20, which marks the defeat of the Derg regime.

The victory is a juncture where a roadmap for the renaissance of the country was designed, Hailemariam told the attendees.

It is a day which opened a new era for Ethiopians to build democracy and federal system, ensure durable peace, bring rapid growth and exercise their religious and gender equality, he indicated.

He further said the victory paved the way for the country to conduct democratic elections and put in place a multi-party system.

The ruling party, EPRDF, is doing its level best to bring about good governance, ensure sustainability of ongoing development and to create employment opportunities for the youth, he indicated.

Hence, the public should join hands with the government for the success of its efforts, he stated.

The Premier finally called on the public to fight against rent-seeking, which is the main impediment in the efforts being made to pull the country out of poverty.

The 26th anniversary of Ginbot 20 was marked at home and abroad yesterday.
