Integrated efforts of all stakeholders vital to improve lives of refugees: Hailemariam

Addis Ababa, June 21, 2017 (FBC) –Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn received at his office a delegation led by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed mainly on ways to boost support for refugees who have been forced to flee their homes due to the unrest in the Horn of Africa region.

Prime Minister Hailemariam said integrated efforts of all stakeholders are required to improve the lives of refugees and build sustainable peace.

After praising Ethiopia’s generosity to refugees, Filippo Grandi for his part said UNHCR will continue to work together with Ethiopia.

Grandi attended World Refugee Day celebration held yesterday in Ethiopia under the theme, “We Stand Together with Refugees.” 

Ethiopia currently hosts more than 850,000 refugees from neighboring countries, namely from South Sudan, Eritrea and Somalia, among others.
