Delegation to UNGA76 succeeded in clarifying Ethiopia’s stand on current issues

Addis Ababa, September 30, 2021 (FBC) – In a biweekly press briefing, Spokesperson of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dina Mufti said the Ethiopian delegation to the 76th UNGA has succeeded in clarifying nation’s stand on various current issues.

According to Ambassador Dina, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs engaged in sideline discussions with Foreign Affairs Ministers of various countries including Denmark, Nowrway, Netherlands, Ireland and Venezuela.

Demeke shed light on Ethiopia’s stand regarding the GERD, situation in Tigray, border dispute with Sudan and other critical issues in both his side discussions with Foreign Affairs officials of the countries, and his speech on the 76th General Assembly.

Besides, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister held discussions with Under-Secretary-General for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA). The discussion covered a range of topics of mutual interest, including the situation in the northern part of Ethiopia, Ambassador Dina indicated.

Speaking at the General Debate of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA76), Demeke raised a lot of issues ranging from COVID-19 vaccination, climate change, the Tigray issue, the role of the misinformation in the international media in distorting facts, multilateralism, the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, the Ethiopia-Sudan border dispute and the role of Ethiopian peacekeeping missions.

Ethiopian Muslim Community in Belgium and Amhara Association in Belgium collectively donated about 474, 279 birr worth of food items to displaced people in Wollo while on Ethiopia Day that was organized by the Antwerp Ethiopian Community Association; 4,035.00 Euros have been collected to support displaced people in Ethiopia.
