Over 1.7 million IDPs in Amhara, Afar regions receiving humanitarian assistance: GCS

Addis Ababa, November 27, 2021 (FBC) – Government Communications Service, in a press briefing, indicated that more than 1.76 Million people who have been forced to flee their homes in Amhara and Afar regions due to the terrorist TPLF aggression.

Number of IDPs in Amhara Region has increased to a Million, State Minister of the Government Communications Service, Selamawit Kassa said.

Selamawit disclosed that, during the last three days alone, close to 265,291 quintals of food has been distributed to the IDPs in the Amhara Region. This helped address close to a million people in the region, she explained.

Saying that the number of people displaced in Afar Region has reached 76,000 as more than 36,000 quintals of food is being distributed to these IDPs starting from last month, Selamawit indicated.

The relief operation is being undertaken by in partnership between the Government and several partners, she added.
