Ethiopia starts investigation into Amnesty International report

Addis Ababa, June 2, 2020 (FBC) – Office of the Federal Attorney General said it has started its own investigation into the new Amnesty International report on “grave human rights violations.”

“We respect human rights not for any reason but for the protection of our people and for justice,” Adanech Abiebie, Attorney General, said in a post to her Facebook page this morning.

“We have looked at the report of Amnesty International and have started our own investigation on the matter. Now, we are working on finalizing our investigation and checking the content and process of the report for actuality and neutrality,” she said.

“After the investigation is complete, where the report is correct, we will take the necessary steps to remedy the problem and where the report is false or exaggerated, we shall discuss with Amnesty International and let the report be corrected accordingly,” she added.

“If correction proves impossible, we shall present the truth with its respective proof so that our people, and the world, are aware.”
