BEIJING, April 16 (Sputnik) – Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday received German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who is paying a three-day visit to the Asian nation, in the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse diplomatic complex in Beijing, China Central Television (CCTV) reported.
Scholz arrived in China on April 14 and has already visited the municipalities of Chongqing and Shanghai, the broadcaster reported. Later on Tuesday, the German chancellor is also scheduled to hold a meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing to discuss trade cooperation, the Ukraine conflict and the Middle East crisis, the report said.
The German chancellor last visited China to meet with Xi in November 2022.
At a meeting with the German Chancellor, the Chinese leader stated that in order to resolve the conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible, it is necessary to pay attention to peace and stability rather than pursue one’s own interests.
In order to prevent the Ukrainian crisis from further escalation, all parties must work to restore peace, Xi Jinping added.
