Commission encourages the public to continue submitting potential national dialogue agendas

Addis Ababa, June 5, 2023 (FBC) – The Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission has invited the general public to continue submitting national issues which could be a national agenda during the Ethiopian national dialogue program.

The Commission, through a social media post, stated that it is making preparations to facilitate public consultations for agenda collection.

It is also reminded that the Commission has already commenced collecting potential national dialogue agenda from the general public through e-mail, postal services or EMS, telephone, and in-person submission to the Commission’s Head Office in Addis Ababa.

As part of the Ethiopian National Dialogue Agenda Selection Process, the Commission has invited the general public to submit national issues which could be a national agenda as per its establishment proclamation through the addresses provided on its social media post; such as e-mail, postal services or EMS, telephone, and in-person submission to the Commission’s Head Office, around Shero Meda area, Addis Ababa.

It is known that the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission was established with a view to addressing deep differences of opinions and disagreements on fundamental national issues among various political and opinion leaders stretching to the segments of society at the grassroots level. Hence, it is imperative to resolve the differences and disagreements through broad-based inclusive dialogue that engenders national consensus.

It is indicated that the Proclamation No.1265/2021 provides the Commission with powers, which include establishing working procedures for the national dialogue process; selecting national dialogue participants; identifying differences among political and opinion leaders as well as sections of the society through conducting studies and organizing public consultations or by using alternative means. It also has the mandate to set the agenda for the national dialogue and facilitate the process thereof.
