ECA says it will closely work with Ethiopia for socio-economic betterment

Addis Ababa, November 21, 2023 (FBC) – The UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) will work closely with Ethiopia and the rest of Africa for the socio-economic betterment of the continent, according to Mr. Claver Gatete, the new Executive Secretary of ECA.

The ECA chief reiterated his organization’s commitment during a discussion with Minister of State for Political and Economic Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mesaganu Arga, earlier today.

During the meeting, Ambassador Mesganu said Ethiopia attaches a great importance to ECA’s undertakings. He affirmed that his government wishes a solid presence of the ECA which befits its historical relations with the country and the continent at large, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.

The State Minister highlighted the immense potential and resilience of Ethiopia’s economy and his government’s readiness to work with the ECA on promoting inclusive global financial architecture.

For his part, the new Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the UNECA, Mr. Gatete said that the ECA is there for the socio-economic betterment of Africa and that it will work closely with Ethiopia and the rest of the continent.

The ECA chief hopes that the ECA and countries like Ethiopia find a way to work with international financial institutions in debt reduction and financing for development and scale up to the rest of Africa.
