Efforts underway to minimize maternal mortality by half: MoH

Addis Ababa, February 16, 2021 (FBC) – Ministry of Health stated that activities are underway to minimize by maternal mortality rate by a half.

The Ministry has consulted with Ethiopian Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ESOG) on impacts of the Coronavirus pandemic maternity, children and youth reproductive health services.

On the occasion, State Minister of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Dereje Duguma said that the prevalence of the pandemic jeopardized reproductive health system on the onset.

The remedial activities undertaken by the Ministry to curtail spread of the virus have concurrently helped address impacts of the pandemic on the reproductive health system, said the state minister.

He recalled contribution of Ethiopian Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in addressing impacts of the pandemic on the maternity and children health care sphere and reducing maternal mortality rate.

The State Minister further said the Health Ministry has been undertaking to mimimize maternal mortality rate by half a percent.

Dr. Dereje further called up on both private and public institutions and stakeholder to collectively work in family planning and reproductive health care area to achive the goals set to reduce maternal mortality rate.
