Ethiopia commemorates 84th anniversary of Yekatit 12 massacre

Addis Ababa, February 19, 2021 (FBC) – Residents of Addis Ababa along with government officials and representatives of Ethiopian Patriots Association commemorated the 84th anniversary of the Yekatit 12 massacre in the vicinity of Sidist Kilo Martyrs Monument.

Deputy Mayor of Addis Ababa, Adanech Abiebie and President of the Ethiopian Patriots Association Lij Daniel Jote Mesfin has put wreath of flowers at the Sidist Killo Martyrs Memorial Monument in commemoration of Ethiopian Martyrs brutally massacred by the Italian Fascist in three days in a row from on February 19-21, 1937.

The day commemorates the massacre of more than 30,000 Ethiopian in three days. Fascist authorities ordered the mass killings following the assassination attempt of General Graziani in Siddist Killo.

Two Young men namely Abraham Deboch and Moges Asgedom threw a hand grenade while Graziani was making a speech in what is now the Sidist Kilo area. Graziani was wounded but survived the attack. In the ensuing days, he ordered the massacre of Addis Ababa residents.
