Ethiopia, Cuba mull over establishing trade cooperation

Addis Ababa, May 21, 2022 (FBC) – The Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in Cuba, Dr. Genet Teshome Jirru held a meeting with Antonio Carricarte, president of the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Cuba.

During the meeting both sides noted the excellent historical ties, highlighting the internationalist support provided by Cuba for the preservation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ethiopia.

During the working meeting they exchanged about the economic environment of both countries, explaining that Cuba is immersed in the process of updating and strengthening the Cuban economic model where micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MIPYMES) are beginning to emerge.

On the other hand, actions to intensify trade relations between Cuba and Ethiopia were analyzed, including the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Chambers, promoting participation in the Havana International Fair (FIHAV 2022) and the organization of e virtual bilateral meetings in a way that propels the approach between the Cuban and Ethiopian business communities.

Cuba and Ethiopia established diplomatic relations in July 1975, celebrating 2022 the 47th anniversary of official ties. Both countries are united by a history of cooperation and solidarity that was rooted in the internationalist support given by Cuba in the late 70s, a gesture in which 163 Cuban fighters gave their lives
