Ethiopia, Germany discuss recent incident at embassy in Berlin

Addis Ababa, September 1, 2020 (FBC) -State Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Redwan Hussein today exchanged a phone call with Heiko Nitzschke, Chargé d’affaires of the embassy of Germany.

The two discussed on the recent incident in Germany where protestors occupied the Ethiopian embassy in Berlin and took down the Ethiopian flag.

Ambassador Redwan expressed his disappointment over the lack of measures against such degrading acts despite prior heads-up, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.

He said the Government of Ethiopia recognizes that its citizens have the right to protest. “However,” he said, “it would be proper if it’s done further away from the embassy’s premises in such a way that wouldn’t obstruct daily business.”

Heiko Nitzschke said the recent development surrounding the security of the Ethiopian embassy in Berlin is unacceptable.

Nitzschke said his Government would further look into the matter and rectify the impediment.
