Ethiopia, India reaffirm commitment to cement cooperation in bilateral, regional issues

Addis Ababa, August 10, 2022 (FBC) – Erogogie Tesfaye (PhD), Minister of Women and Social Affairs of Ethiopia held discussion with Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs Jaishankara Subrahmanyam (PhD) on bilateral, regional and multilateral issues of interest.

On the occasion, Erogogie reiterated the long-standing relations between the two countries that goes back to millennia. She briefed the Foreign Minister about the current situations in Ethiopia and the peace building initiatives that the government has been undertaking thus far. She also commended India for its principled and constructive position at the UN Security Council particularly on issues related to Ethiopia.

Erogogie also addressed the trilateral negotiation over the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), stressing Ethiopia’s unwavering commitment to resume 

African Union led process. She also further discussed conducting high-level bilateral political consultation to elevate the relations between Ethiopia and India into a higher level. 

Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, on his part, appreciated the ever-growing multifaceted relations of the two countries in the areas of trade and investment, education and capacity building. He stated that India is keen to engage with Ethiopia based on mutual interests and to expand areas of engagement including cooperation in the global arena.
