Ethiopia launches Cholera Vaccination in Tigray region

Addis Ababa, June 12, 2021 (FBC) – Ethiopia has launched Cholera Vaccination in Tigray targeting 2 Million people with 4 Million doses to prevent Cholera outbreak in the region. The inoculation is based on provision of Oral Cholera Vaccine (OCV).

The campaign is targeted with provision of hygiene and sanitation materials for enhanced prevention.

Vaccines were provided by the International Coordinating Group (ICG) on Vaccine Provision through the Secretariat of the Global Task Force on Cholera Control (SGTFCC) with operation funding by the Vaccine Alliance and technical and operational support from the World Health Organization (WHO).

Vaccination with a full two-round dose will provide a protection of up to 5 years. The two-round campaign is launched and conducted by Tigray Regional Health Bureau, Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) with WHO and other partners.
