Ethiopia marks 83rd anniversary of Patriots’ Victory Day

Addis Ababa, May 5, 2024 (FBC) – Today in Addis Ababa, the 83rd anniversary of Ethiopian Patriots’ Victory Day was commemorated at the Arat Kilo Monument.

President Sahle-Work Zewde, accompanied by other dignitaries, laid wreaths at the monument in honor of this significant day.

The event also saw the presence of Daniel Jote, the son of the president of the Ancient Ethiopian Patriots Association, as well as patriots, families of veterans, members of the Ethiopian national defense forces, senior government officials, and representatives from the diplomatic community.

Patriots’ Victory Day, known as Arbegnoch Qen, is a national holiday in Ethiopia, observed annually on May 5th. This day holds historical significance as it marks the end of the Italian occupation on May 5th, 1941. It stands as a testament to the resilience and bravery demonstrated by Ethiopian patriots who valiantly fought against the Fascist forces during World War II.
