Ethiopia working closely with Saudi Arabia to assist migrants

Addis Ababa, September 4, 2020 (FBC) –Ethiopia is working closely with Saudi Arabia to assist its citizens in the Kingdom, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).

Ethiopia yesterday extended its appreciation to the Kingdom for the outstanding support extended to its citizens in general, and Ethiopian irregular migrants in particular.

Ambassador Dina Mufti, Spokesperson of MoFA, said in his bimonthly press briefing that both the governments of Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia are working together to the migrants.

He added efforts are underway to repatriate Ethiopians who volunteered to return home from other Middle East and African countries.

He further said a total of 429 Ethiopians were repatriated from Beirut, Lebanon, this week. Different organizations financed the cost of return of 165 of the migrants, according to him.

He said the government of Ethiopia is working with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and other stakeholders to rehabilitate the returnees.

Ambassador Dina also provided a briefing to the media on the annual meeting of ambassadors and various diplomatic activities carried out by MoFA within the past two weeks.
