Ethiopia, Somalia discuss bilateral, regional issues of common concern

Addis Ababa, January 29, 2021 (FBC) -Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia Demeke Mekonnen received at his office yesterday Mohamed Abdirizak, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somalia.

During their discussion, the two sides covered bilateral and regional issues of common concern.

Demeke briefed his Somalian counterpart on current situations in Ethiopia and the region, including preparations to hold the upcoming general election in the country.

Appreciating the longstanding relationship between the two neighbouring countries, Demeke also pledged that Ethiopia would do its level best to take the relationship to a higher level.

Minister Mohamed Abdirizak, on his part, expressed his appreciation for Ethiopia’s pivotal role in stabilizing Somalia.

The federal government of Somalia is holding talks with regional governments on the upcoming elections in the country, he added.

He recalled his government stance in understanding the law enforcement operation in Tigray as an internal affair of Ethiopia and affirmed Somalia’s commitment to the joint efforts of the two countries in building and keeping peace in the region.
