Ethiopia suspends schools, sporting events due to coronavirus

Addis Ababa, March 16, 2020 (FBC) – Ethiopia has announced the suspension of schools, sporting events and large gatherings for at least fifteen days, subject to further assessments.

The suspension starts from today, Monday March 16, 2020, according to office of the Prime Minister.

But students of higher education institutions will remain in their campuses and dorms receiving course content online.

Religious institutions and places of worship were also urged to limit gatherings.

The government has also decided to avail government buses free of charge to the public to limit overcrowding in the public transport system.

Ethiopia confirmed another coronavirus case today, raising the total number of patients to five.

A person who came from Dubai has tested positive for the virus.

All the patients are in a stable condition.

The worldwide outbreak has sickened over 156,000 people and left more than 5,800 dead.
