Ethiopian Media Authority suspends Addis Standard website

Addis Ababa, July 16, 2021 (FBC) – Ethiopian Media Authority (EMA) yesterday suspended Addis Standard, an online media registered by the institution on May 28, 2021.

The temporary suspension followed complaints and alarming trends in EMA’s monitoring findings.

Authority stated that the Media has been a platform to advance the terrorist group’s agenda, to the extent of refusing to abide by the decisions of the House of People’s Representative: legitimizing a terrorist group as a “Defence Force”.

“This and other related misconducts will be subject to thorough investigation and further actions will be taken”, the statement indicates.

EMA reaffirmed that it is committed to press freedom; promoting and enabling professional and ethical journalism.

EMA also emphasized that freedom comes with responsibility and accountability. We urge all media to respect the rule of law and work responsibly.
