Ethiopia’s annual Green Legacy challenge to start on Friday

Addis Ababa, June 3, 2020 (FBC) –Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed said the annual tree planting program will begin on Friday.

“On Friday June 5th, 2020 we are set to officially embark on our annual Green Legacy challenge,” the Premier said in a post to his Facebook page today.

“Last year, we each committed to the national call and met our set target. Despite COVID19, we are determined to plant the intended 5 billion trees,” he added.

“Let’s start planning on how each household with plant their print in a physically distanced manner,” the Prime Minister noted.

The country planted four billion trees last rainy season. Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative targets to plant 20 billion trees within the next few years.
