First round military operations against TPLF rebel faction successfully completed: PM Abiy

Addis Ababa, November 6, 2020 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has stated that the first round military operations carried out against a rebel faction of Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) has been successfully completed.

As per the operation, The Ethiopian Air Force has fully annihilated the rockets and artillery of the rebel faction stationed in various fronts with successful air strikes, the Prime Minister underlined.

The air strike has thwarted the intention of the faction to use the rockets that can hit a range of 300 Km from where they are stationed at Mekele City and other places in the vicinity.

The military operation has succeeded in achieving three major objectives set ahead of the goal set to fully trouncing the rebel faction- containing the attack from the enemy targeting the defense force, police and infrastructures, protecting resources and firearms, and weakening capacity of the rebel faction, according to the premier.

All the military forces of the rebel group at Badme, Tsorena and Zalanbessa have become out of purpose intended by of the TPLF insurgent, he said.

The rebel has been made incapable of using the rockets which have been bought by public resource, Abiy said.

The premier stated the continuation of activities aimed to ensure peace and security of the people and the country, build capacity and proficiency of the defense forces till the rebel group is taken to justice vowing to reinforced counteract.

The operations by Federal Defense Forces underway in Northern Ethiopia have clear, limited and achievable objectives-to restore the rule of law and the constitutional order, and to safeguard the rights of Ethiopians to lead a peaceful life wherever they are in the country, Prime Minister Abiy said.
