French Embassy provides €2.5mln assistance to Ab’ala Hospital, Afar region

Addis Ababa, May 8, 2023 (FBC) – The Embassy of France in Addis Ababa has provided 2.5 million Euro support to Ab’ala Hospital in Afar region.

The grant agreement has taken place in the presence of Minister of Health Dr. Lia Tadese, Ambassador of France to Ethiopia Remi Maréchaux and Head of Afar Region Health Bureau Yasin Habib.

The embassy has so far provided similar support worth 1.5 million Euro for the rehabilitation of Dessie Hospital in Amhara Region.

The Ambassador stated on the occasion that the financial assistance being provided by the Embassy will contribute to strengthening of the peace agreement, pledging to extend 1.5 million euros support to Adwa Hospital in Tigray region.

Minister of Health, Dr. Lia Tadese, for her part, pointed out that that the second round assistance to conflict-affected areas is crucial to speed up the reconstruction process in war affected areas and provide quick response to health care needs in the areas.

The Head of the Afar Regional Health Office, Hassan Habib, said that 24 health centers and two hospitals were damaged in Zone II of the region.

He added the support will help strengthen the restoration of Ab’ala Hospital, which has a capacity to providing health care services for more than 300,000 people in the region.
